Unless you need to rent a large vehicle, go online (CarRentals.com or CarRentalExpress.com, for example) and reserve the smallest car they have.

Once you go pick up the car, there is a good chance that all their small cars will already be rented. (Most people rent the smallest car, especially in this economy, because it costs less).

They will then be “forced” to upgrade you to a larger car, at no extra cost to you!

Going to garage sales can be a fun and inexpensive way to purchase stuff.
Make sure to bargain on the price, it will lower your expenses even more.

Plan ahead by checking your local newspaper and the PennySaver to find addresses where garage sales will be held. Most of them take place on Saturdays, and usually start very early. (6am is not unusual).

Since most garage sales begin at dawn, they tend to end between 11am and 1pm.
This is the best time to show up and rack up the deals. By then, people are usually exhausted and just want to get rid of everything. (They do not want to haul it back in their house, creating unwanted clutter).

By then, there will sometimes be a huge sign “Everything Free” in front of whatever items are still unsold at that point.
